Perry was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first television roles included two roles on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. But her parents would not let her perform until she turned an adult because of the impact stress might have on their daughter. Perry shy and timid to perform in the high school, started to act in the theater at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new friends. Perry began her career with New York after graduation, performing in minor role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry come back to California to work as a stage actress. Perry was a part of Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in 2013. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. Perry was a regular character in the ABC political drama Scandal which starred her father. That same year she appeared as a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a youthful version. The role was given by audition even though she has a family tie to the character.
